Our Mission: Affordable Fiber Broadband for Everyone, Everywhere

COS Systems builds the software fiber operators use to plan, sell, run and share their networks. Our founders helped connect Sweden’s first FTTH customers in 1994. That experience still shapes everything we build.

Our mission

Enable affordable broadband for everyone, everywhere

Reliable, affordable broadband is essential infrastructure. Building fiber that serves everyone takes more than capital and technology. It takes long-term thinking, collaboration and the right tools.

COS Systems exists to meet that challenge. We build software for open, scalable fiber networks that balance commercial viability with public value.

Our guiding goal has not changed since day one: bridge the digital divide and bring affordable FTTH to everyone, everywhere.

What we stand for

Our values: We Care, We Dare, We Share

Our values come from our customers. We reviewed years of operator feedback and discussed it as one team, across Sweden and North America. Three values describe how we work, and each one shows up in real projects.

We Care

We stay with our customers for the long run and share responsibility for the result.

  • Umeå Energi signed for COS Business Engine in 2011 and renewed in 2019.
  • Kitsap PUD has run COS Business Engine since 2016.
  • The City of Superior runs its open access network with a two-person operations team.
  • COS Systems achieved ISO 27001 certification in 2026, on the first attempt.

We Dare

We go first on hard problems, so operators don’t carry that risk.

  • Our founders helped connect Sweden’s first FTTH customers to a municipally owned network in 1994.
  • In 2008, the first COS Business Engine contract supported Kommunicera’s move to open access.
  • In Clearwater County, Alberta, COS Business Engine integrates with Calix Cloud. Residents switch ISP with zero touch and no truck roll.

We Share

We share knowledge, experience and networks. Open access is sharing by design.

  • Kitsap PUD’s open access network carries 6 residential and 5 business ISPs.
  • COS Wholesale Engine adds the wholesale layer when several ISPs sell on one network.
  • We publish what we learn, including the whitepaper Dare to Share Your Infrastructure.
  • COS is a Calix partner and a Nokia fixed networks partner.

Our history

From Sweden’s first FTTH network to open access worldwide

COS started with people who had spent years building and operating fiber networks. They saw the value of fiber, and the operational complexity behind it. Success depends on how networks are planned, operated, shared and sustained over decades. That insight became our mission.

business models supported directly: retail, open access and hybrid

Experience from the first FTTH rollouts

We have worked with FTTH since the early rollouts of the 2000s. We have met the operational problems before, so you don’t face them alone.

Built only for fiber broadband

COS builds BSS/OSS for FTTH and nothing else. Every workflow matches how fiber operators sell, provision and bill.

Configured, not coded

COS runs your business processes through configuration, not custom code. That shortens time to market. It supports retail, open access and hybrid models.
